Dear Diary...
Disparity
samedi 6 juin 2009

When I was younger, I never really liked rich people. Part of it was because of media influence, rich people always seemed to be getting into trouble, and the drama serials rarely put them into good light either. The remaining part was due to my own perspective, I had a feeling that rich people were conceited, and of course, had an unfair advantage in life.

This hate faded as I matured. I didn't see the point in hating rich people. If I wanted to enjoy the finer things in life, without having rich parents, I'd have to work for it. That was what I told myself when I was younger. Now, I tell myself this: no use hating them, it's not like they'll dig their pockets and fork out money to feed the poor and help the needy. If I want to help, then I'd have to work hard myself.

The disparity between the rich and poor is placed on a silver platter served right under our noses. It's a cold and cruel reality that we often choose not to face. Take Indonesia for example. Hundreds of Indonesian plantation tycoons, hotel tycoons, property tycoons have been making waves and headlines, however, there are millions of Indonesian citizens whom can hardly make ends meet.

This is such a dangerous trend, where the rich gets richer, and the poor gets poorer. It's a vicious circle, or a prosperity cycle for the rich.

The poor: Can hardly make ends meet --> Children recieve no education and go to work --> Fall ill from overwork --> In debt due to mounting hospital bills --> Can hardly make ends meet

The rich: Stuffing money in their pockets everyday --> Children receive best of education, well fed, clothed and housed. --> healthy children make better learners. healthy adults make productive workers --> Increase in productivity means more money --> Stuffing money in their pockets everyday

It is a problem that needs to be solved. Governments have to do more to help their people escape the poverty circle. Non-profit organisations can only do so much, because they are non-profit, self-explanatory. Then again, the Government can also, only do so much. There still has to be a sufficient reserve in the Country's vaults in case of 'rainy weather'. Thus, I feel that the responsibility of helping the needy goes to the rich. They have to insert "Give away half of my wealth to the needy" into their prosperity cycle. Only then will the prosperity cycle be expanded, and the poverty circle will cease to exist (the only time extinction is a good thing). We need more of Manny Pacquiao. We need more of that crazy boxer who opens the door of his house promptly every morning and inviting his fellow countrymen into his not-so humble abode. And he makes sure that none of them leaves empty handed. He is, the Philippine's biggest social help group.

I dream that one day there'll be no more begging along the streets. I dream that one day poor will disappear from the dictionary. I dream that one day there will be no distinction between rich and poor (without communism). I dream that one day everyone can have dreams, and have the opportunities to chase them.

However, I have realised that fate is both fair, and unfair.

For those who know me well enough, I'm a freethinker that follows the right-hand path.
So, I feel that Fate is a 'person', or is controlled, by a 'person'.

S/he chooses who to be rich, or who to be poor.

And as I was talking to Silvana earlier on, there seems to be a trend.

Remember the saying,"Money cannot buy happiness. For anything else, there's Mastercard."?

The rich often are not happy. Although they look happy, that is only a facade. Behind the facade of happiness is the strained family ties, intense work politics, stress, loneliness, and sadness.

The poor are often happy (maybe not exactly). Although they appear to be in a lot of distress and going through a lot of hardship, family ties a stronger due to commitment and responsibility, there is not work politics and stress only comes from whether there is food for the day.

Let us embrace this quote,"Unity is strength."

Not even money, can replace unity.

So, as a united front of humans, let us help each other. Help the needy and get them on their feet and on their way to chasing their very own dreams.

Disparity...

It won't set us apart for long.

I'm going to appeal again!

Have a Heart Campaign

I would really like to launch the charity campaign, but I'd need a lot of help with it.

For those who visited my Deviantart account (deviantart link is in the profile section on your left), you probably have seen the brightly coloured hearts I've drawn.

So this is the plan. I would like to launch a campaign/roadshow, to raise the awareness of needy/troubled children in Singapore. And I would like to invite people to fund organisations that take care of these children.

So, I wish to launch this mid-scale event at J8 atrium? or somewhere with a lot of people. Where I can like draw hearts for people on the spot. All hearts drawn to be one-of-a-kind for a small fee, which will all go to the needy children. I would also like to take the chance to raise the awareness of the public of the condition/situation of Singapore's needy/troubled children.

So I need....

someone who knows of organisations that help troubled children
sponsors (someone who can get them for me?)

event organizers
advisers
and anyone else who shares this same vision as me and willing to help me.

I would really like to launch this 'Have a Heart campaign at the end of this year, after the Os. Hope to do my part for the needy. :) Please help? hehe.

Pop me a tag/email if you're interested and if you can help!
