Dear Diary...
Teachers' Day
lundi 31 août 2009

Was so fun. Haha. A lot of cool stuff happening to today!

First we had the super comical dance item by Lewis, Toon Yang and Timothy. Really funny! haha. Lewis' entry was really funny. And his costume was soooo old skool. haha.

Part 1. We thought it was the end :/ But it wasn't!

And the ending 'speech' by Toon Yang was really good too. Everyone was anticipating. haha.

And Toon Yang later performed with a band. With Mr McAleenan in it. Toon Yang is like, so talented. He got into TJC by DSA-ing thru floorball, although he doesn't really play it. He helped our class play 2 games of Basketball during the inter-class games. He dances. And he plays the electric guitar. And, he's a comedian. A total stand-up comedian. woots.

Then, the next funny thing happeend at Cafe Cartel. haha. Keneth Zhou, Melvyn Yee, Leonard Lim, Nathaniel, Shaun, Justin, Ryan, Ek Kiat, Gary Lai and I sang a birthday song for Wesley in Cafe Cartel. Haha. Even though it was not his birthday. hahahahahah. Hilarious. Then, we did a version in chinese, much to wesley's horror.
Afterwards, when we left, we grabbed Wesley and put him in the middle of a circle and we sang the birthday song again in the middle of J8. haha. :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WESLEY!

lols.
And I heard T-Swift on radio at Cafe Cartel. woots

Peektures:

PB's 'prize presentation'! haha

That's Toon Yang. He had a really quick haircut.

The band!

TIMOTHY MAHHHHH!

Stunning News
dimanche 30 août 2009

If anyone ever told you that Formula One was predictable, he sure didn't watch Saturday's Spa-Forchamps qualifying race. We literally have topsy-turvy grid for today afternoon. With the major contenders at the back of the grid, and Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India at the front.

First Pole in 29 races for Force India. Woah.

And another peice of major news. Taylor Swift has recieved a star on the Mohegan Walk Of Fame! :D At 19, all three of her albums have recieved Platinums. Next star will be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (:

Universal Music will also be doing a re-release of Taylor Swift's sophomore album, FEARLESS. Sparks Fly, a song of hers which was first heard at a concert in 2007, is slated to be added into the album for release. Hopefully Permanent Marker will be on too. :D

October 27th. Can't wait.

MY PHONE RANG TWICE TODAY IN CLASS, DURING THE SAME LESSON!

argh.

Ms Foo told us about Physics remedial during the holidays so I went on to save an appointment on my handphone and decided to assign an alarm to it, just in case I forgot all about it on that day. So I chose a tone, and it started PLAYING LOUDLY in class. Argh.

And it did that again, later on.

Naughty phone.

And read this article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/netherlands/6103936/Court-takes-Dutch-teenage-girl-from-parents-to-block-her-solo-voyage.html

Dumb right? let her fulfil her dreams! Even her parents allow her to do so! Dutch Court. Urgh. Recently, a British teen, Mike Perham had just returned to Britain after his round the world yacht journey. He left at 16, and returned 17 years old. Sure, he did meet with bad weather, engine problems, and had to make many pit stops along the way. But he still succeeded! And nothing that bad happened to him.

Furthermore, he is the pride of Britain now! Surely the Dutch want something like that. Moreover, if that girl succeeds, he'll be able to steal Perham's Guiness World Record of being the youngest person to sail solo around the world with minimal assistance!

Then again, it might be politics. You know...

Sigh. Poor girl. She's stuck to sailing plastic toy boats in her bathtub for now.

yongliang, you can bulldoze through ANYTHING.

Math isn't gonna stand in your way. Crumble, trample and stomp it. Raze it to the ground. Math is dirt. And I ain't gonna be conquered by dirt.

That O level cert is waiting.

I still hate math. (maybe because I've got OCD and I don't like dirt)

Stay Beautiful

Cory's eyes are like a jungle
he smiles, it's like the radio
he whispers songs into my window
in words nobody knows
there's pretty girls on every corner
that watch him as he's walking home
saying, does he know
will you ever know

chorus:
you're beautiful
every little piece, love, don't you know
you're really gonna be someone, ask anyone
when you find everything you've looked for
i hope your life leads you back to my door
oh but if it don't, stay beautiful

cory finds another way to be
the highlight of my day
i'm taking pictures in my mind
so i can save them for a rainy day
it's hard to make conversation
when he's taking my breathe away
i should say, hey by the way...

repeat chorus

if you and i are a story
that never gets told
if what you are is a daydream
i'll never get to hold, at least you'll know

you're beautiful
every little piece, love, don't you know
you're really gonna be someone, ask anyone
when you find everything you've looked for
i hope your life leads you back to my front door
oh but if it don't, will you stay beautiful beautiful beatiful...

Dear Diary...
Rainy Days

I love rainy days (:

We have this pretty awesome leak in our classroom's ceiling. (We're on the top floor, cos we're the top class :D)

So yeah, it was raining VERY heavily today, it was soooo misty outside.

A beautiful sight.

And, we've got an awesome leak.

'pit...pat...pit...pat'

Drops of rainwater crashed on to the floor like the beads of a recently broken bracelet. Alright, that's beside the point.

The main thing is, me and Kenneth were pretty irritated with the leak and wanted to collect the water. Later, Kenneth saw a 5 cent coin on the ground, and threw it into the puddle and said 'hey, that could be a wishing well!"

Then I got this super duper über brainwave. I got Kenneth to fold an origami paper box, and we wrapped a small plastic bag around it.

TAH DAH, OUR VERY OWN WISHING WELL (;

Kenneth then picked up the 5 cent coin and threw it into the refurbished wishing well (:

Hey, don't call us childish, these little things (the little things/you do to me are/taking me over/I wanna show ya~ shucks, I really shouldn't be singing here!) are keeping us sane!

More hardship ahead

Product Reviews!
lundi 24 août 2009

I recently posted a review on the Orange Satsuma from The Body Shop, and I'm going to do a review on a few other items I love. (:

My mum recently bought the Peach Satsuma and Passionfruit Satsuma, both from Body Shop. Peach has a stronger and more distinctive scent, while the Passionfruit one is more subtle but just as nice-smelling.

Peach. My Favourite.

My mum likes this one.

And, I'm the cookie monster himself (:

So here are some of my favourite cookies/biscuits. (They can all be purchased from NTUC Fairprice outlets)

Country Gold chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are shaped like little pebbles. They are not to dry, thanks to the tasty chocolate chips inside. Not too hard, not too soft either. Neat bite-sized cookies. (:

Arnott's is a famous well-established Australian brand. Classic oreo-like sandwich cookies. 2 slabs of Chocolate biscuit and a layer of milky cream. Tasty. (:

Another Classic. Pastry-Biscuits sandwiching a layer of sweet lemon cream. Has a strong and pleasant aroma too. (:

None of these companies paid me to write positive reviews for them (although I wish they would).

EDIT:

HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS!

THE ULTIMATE VOORTMAN DOUBLE CHOCOLATE FUDGE COOKIE!

Dear Diary...
Animals and Birds should never be kept in cages

Animals and birds, works of the Creator, are naturally beautiful. When Man saw such beauty, he wanted to have all of the most beautiful animals and birds. Men are possessive creatures; we keep these works of art in cages, so that they will always be ours.

However, freedom should be theirs. Over the years, we have domesticated millions of species of animals. Ranging from the hamster to the killer whale, our greed for beauty has led us to kidnap these beautiful creatures.

In my opinion, it is cruel to keep any animal in cages, in captivity. We claim to be protecting these animals; however what we have been doing is to destroy these animals’ natural instincts and make them completely dependent on the human race. This might just be another of Man’s ploy to dominate the landscape.

Have you ever thought how it would feel to be kept in a cage, where you only have enough space to pace back and forth, get poked at by others and be deprived of freedom? Wild animals and birds are caged up only to offer the sole purpose of stroking Man’s egoistic nature. Man feels powerful to be in control of another being’s life.

Caging animals and birds serve little purpose. Apart from stroking our egos, we claim to be conserving the environment and protecting wildlife by keeping them in captivity. We promised to release them into the wild as soon as their population stabilizes. A novel idea indeed, however the numerous failed attempts to release these domesticated animals in the wild have shown how difficult it is to help these animals reintegrate. When these animals were kept under captivity, they did not have to hunt or worry about the next meal. These animals were literally fed with a silver spoon. Soon, they lose their innate ability to hunt or find food, and they are thus unable to survive in the wild.

The red wolf was considered extinct from the wild in 1970. In recent years, there have been efforts to reintroduce captive wolves into the wild. However, researchers and scientists often realized that these wolves die shortly after being released into the wild, as they had been unable to find food. The red wolf was an apex predator, thus there definitely was no shortage of food, the fact that they did not survive in the wild and died of starvation shows how keeping animals in captivity had destroyed their natural ability to hunt.

Another excuse Man provides for keeping animals in cages is to breed these animals in captivity to help restore their population number before releasing them into the wild. However, there have been many failures in captive breeding. Often, animals bred in captivity have high mortality rates. This is partly due to the fact that the parent animals do not have the ability to teach the young animals how to feed or drink, as they themselves have lost their own natural ability to hunt. This causes the young animals to die quickly. Apart from this, some animals cannot be bred in captivity. Some animals such as polar bears need certain environments to be able to breed successfully. Penguins are extremely selective when it comes to finding a partner, thus efforts to breed such animals are often futile.

In 2003, a furore arose in Singapore over the Pink Dolphins in Sentosa’s Dolphin Lagoon. ACRES, the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society made a press release of the truth about the Pink Dolphins in Sentosa. In the press release, it was shown that the Pink dolphins were deprived of freedom and the basic rights any life form should possess.

Although the pink dolphins were not starved, they had to perform tricks correctly to earn food. The pink dolphins did not do tricks because they liked to, but they did it for food. As the dolphins do not have an alternative source of food in the lagoon, they are forced to perform tricks for crowds. Thus, keeping animals in captivity for entertainment is cruel. Not only does it destroy the animals’ natural instincts, it also damages the animals’ psychology and is harmful for an animal.

Sentosa also claimed that the dolphin lagoon serves as an education and research centre, where the public can learn more about wildlife and the dolphins, which will be beneficial to both humans and the dolphins. However, in my opinion, there is no way how anything can be learnt from watching a dolphin play football, balancing balls on its rostrum or having people ride on them as if they were jet skis. This only reinforces the notion that man is dominant, man is above all animals and that man controls nature, rather than being a part of it.

In conclusion, animals and birds should never be kept in cages. Keeping animals in captivity destroys their natural instincts and innate abilities. There is no use in keeping animals in captivity since they would still die as soon as they are released into the wild, Thus there is no point in caging them in an attempt to ‘protect’ them as they would die either way. Humans are part of nature and we do not control nature, thus we have no right to cage animals and birds. We should allow nature to take its own course and allow the animals to fend for themselves. They are part of nature, and part of the fragile ecosystem. Without this animals in the wild, the food web would definitely be disrupted and end up in haywire. Ultimately, humans are the ones who will suffer the most.

It felt a little messy. But I was focusing on content on this one. I followed Mr Tan's advice by adding examples to make it less theoretical and more real. I hope I do better with this one.

Dear Diary...
Innies. Part 2
dimanche 23 août 2009

I realised that I cannot fit my entire explanation in the Cbox thingy, so I decided to dedicate this entire post to it. (Even though I'm being weighed down by my homework, I feel that typing this post is about a million times more meaningful then doing math homework and the US REFORMS.

Well, I do understand that if introverts can succeed on their own in this extroverted world, it would definitely give them 2x the sense of achievement. As an introvert myself, I have of course dreamt of moments where I recieve my 10A1 O level Cert and sniggering at Mr Leong at the same time. Definitely. It would be like, "In your face Mr Leong! I did it. not that many thanks to you."

However, this can be quite difficult for most introverts. Such cases of introverts succeeding in this extroverted world are far and few between. I'm not denying that there are a significant number of introverts who have become very successful, for example, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple. (Quite an irony isn't it, 2 rival company founders, with so much in common (:) However, they definitely had a hard time making it this far.

What I wish to do, is not to remove the challenges in their lives. But to teach the methods to deal with this challenges. My solution? A solid foundation.

I will only set up a pre-school, that caters to both extroverted and introverted students. As I have mentioned that introversion and extroversion actually exists as a spectrum, a continuum, energy balance is definitely very important. How so?

Extroverts are often dubbed as energy spenders, they like the fun and fast things in life, and often burn out in mid-life.

On the other hand, introverts are energy savers. Think of them as rechargeable batteries. They constantly need breaks to allow them to recharge, that makes them less active, and they often are thinkers.

In my school, I will teach this 2 drastically different personalities on how to balance their energy levels. The extroverts need to learn to slow down a bit, and reflect more, so they will probably not burn out in midlife and enjoy the slower (and finer) things in life, and the introverts need to learn how to speed up a little, by rationing their energies.

It is important to start this young, and tell the children that there is nothing wrong in being an introvert or an extrovert. It isn't that bad to be that tad more playful, or a little shy. You can't change it really. It's biological. As soon as they feel comfortable with their ownselves, they can slowly continue their journey to success.

All I want to do is pave the way, and tell them that there's nothing wrong with being who they are. Just go get it.

Dear Diary...
Introversion
mercredi 19 août 2009

I went to sleep at 6 in the evening!
and I woke up at 10 for dinner. (:

I slept at 3.30 last night. With many thanks to someone's big idea. Whatever, had to pull me down.

Felt really stressed up and tired this morning. Mum just being really nice to be this morning. Thanks mum (: She let me sleep in. Thank god I was still in time for school!

I think I'll follow mum's advice, do what I want, no point stressing up because I can't do what the teachers want me to. They don't know what I want anyway. Furthermore, the education system is biased towards the extroverted, so it's not fair anyway.

It's not like I don't know what I want and still need to be stuck with 9 subjects. But, whatever.
argh.

It's not like me to blog like that. But. whatever, again.

Talking to Silvana about introversion and extroversion now. Because I told her that apart from opening my own preschool I am going to develop a new syllabus/system for introverts. Then she was curious why so I had to explain everything about introversion and extroversion, the into-extro continuum, traits and the energy balance.

Why I think introverts need a new syllabus or different system.

Introverts are people who prefer to dwell on certain topics and subjects. So I would prefer to spot a child's talents and strengths and strengthening them, and not stress them out by forcing them to improve on their weaknesses, because there is no rationale behind that.

The O level standard will not suit introverts, most of the time. Introverts tend to ask why why why, how how how how. Take for example:

Why can a cell survive?
A: It is able to take in nutrients such as oxygen, glucose etc, to maintain respiration to keep it alive.

Why does it need oxygen and glucose? Why does it need to maintain respiration? How do those nutrients get to the cell? How do they get into the cell? Why must it be these nutrients?

Often, an answer the teacher will give is: This is not in syllabus, don't worry.

But how can they not worry? Introverts prefer depth to breadth. So they need to know everything, if they were to learn something, otherwise they are likely unable to fully understand the topic and do slightly worse. The more a teacher says not in syllabus, the more the student feels discouraged and feel more unconfident with the subject/topic. (Same reason why I don't do well for A math. Why is the sine graph curved? Why is the cosine graph curved? Why does it have such a shape? How did they derive sine and cosine? No teacher has managed to give me an answer. They all tell me to: memorise) Memorise is the last word introverts need to hear. They prefer to understand. They don't need to memorise then, the ideas flow back to their minds easily. Introverts are more imaginative and are visualisers, thus if they understand, they are mroe likely to be able to visualise, and they will do better.

So, it's obvious introverts need to have a different education system if they were to excel in this world which is biased towards the extroverts. We need this playing ground evened.

Dear Diary...
Dr Marti Olsen Laney: The Introvert Advantage
lundi 17 août 2009

I just had my shower :/ So late. hahaha.

That's because I was pretty engrossed in this book. The Introvert Advantage, by Dr Marti Olsen Laney. I had wanted to learn more about myself, so I got my mum to borrow it for me.

Now that I had read the first few parts of the book, I kinda feel that the book is more for extroverts, rather than introverts.

Well, sure, the book sure pin points many of the traits I have. It's also interesting how it advises me how to try some things in some ways to maximise my energy use (introverts have rather low physical energy levels but are very active in the mental context).

However, the main problem is that introverts are outnumbered by extroverts, THREE TO ONE. The theory?

Extroverts are the warriors and commanders who fight the war, and make things happen, naturally, you need more of them.

Introverts are like the advisers to these commanders and warriors. They create ideas and formulate methods for the warriors and commanders to help them make it happen.

Naturally, you need less introverts.

So I think the book should also be read by extroverts, only then they will learn to appreciate their introverted counterparts more. After all, introverts are people who crave recognition and need recognition to tell them that they are on the right track, good job, keep going. And this motivation would come from the people around them, and the probability that the people around them are extroverted? 75%.

I'll read more of the book. Really interesting.

I had actually wanted the other book. But this book is just fine. I think I'll read all 3.

THE BODY SHOP, ORANGE SATSUMA

I wanted to create this post for quite some time, but I have always forgotten to do so.

(: The Body Shop's Orange Satsuma!

I think The Body Shop's soaps are very original, and they are very fragrant, in the natural kind of way. It's not the kind of strong, overwhelming, perfumey smell that threatens to knock you out. But it's more of the more gentle, subtle, appealing, tangy smell. And it is very natural too.

To a large extent, the Orange Satsuma is not a soap. It is something to do with the essential oils of Oranges. Yeah. If I'm not wrong. I'm just really sure IT IS NOT A SOAP. yeah! (:

But it smells really nice. I promise.

I like the peach one too. Be sure to give Body Shop's shower gels a try. Fantastic stuff!

Dear Diary...
Déjà vu

Have you felt that everything goes wrong, on the day something big is happening? Well, I have.

Today seriously sucked. I forgot to bring my IC for the English O level orals! As soon as our class was dismissed, I rushed home to get my IC, and then rushed back.

Then, I was sweating profusely. And I was soooo scared I was gonna stink, so I tried to dry myself as much as possible by standing under the fan, and using pieces of tissue paper to clean myself up. Urgh.

And then, Wei Kun felt that my hair was messy from all the running! Argh. Rushed to the toilet. Washed my face with facial scrub borrowed from Kenneth, and then made sure my hair was in place.

When I returned to class, everyone was gone! Quickly packed up my bag and went down to the hall. Quickly checked if I had everything.

Entry proof? Check.
Handphone? Wait a minute..where is it...
I/C? Shit, it's not with me either.

OH NO! IT'S IN CLASS! Rushed upstairs again. Tried to avoid puddles here and there, found my wallet and phone, rushed back down again. PHEW.

THAT IS NOT THE END!

Fast forward. Done our prayers, briefing, waiting.

Then, I was at the preparation table, where we looked at the picture for picture discussion and the oral passage.

When it was my turn to be examined, I left my entry proof on the table! Luckily Mr Fernandez was there and I managed to attract his attention and get him to get it for me. Phew.

Sucked...

Final Straw.

After all that intense preparation, 4 to 5 sessions worth of oral practice with Mr Tan, it all came to naught.

The déjà vu moment. If you view my archives, you will remember I had said that I blanked out at last year's Chinese Oral, even though I was confident of my conversation.

The same thing happened today. I forgot where I wanted to put extra emphasis on, in the oral passage. Forgot key points, in the picture. Forgot to describe some details. :/ And then, the final straw. The Conversation. "Tell me about a faraway place you have been, or you would wish to go to."

That question was SOOOOO similar to the one Mr Tan asked me on Friday! "Tell me about a place you wish to go to."

I thought the A1 was in the bag. But then, I blanked out, AGAIN!

ARGHHH.

Erm. I think I want to go to Venice. Well, we have read about it as it is in the Social Studies Syllabus, where to learn about the governance and cultures. And I think it really appeals to me...blah blah blah.

Things that I had mentioned on Friday but did not mention today:
Venetian Carnevale
Intricately Designed Masks
Venice is part of Italy, the Home of Ferrari, and I am an ardent fan of Scuderia Ferrari Formula One.

SHUCKS!

Then, They went on to ask me about shopping. I was really shocked. "Where would you shop? Like, a shopping centre or on the streets?"

Was that a prompt, or the second question? :/

Erm I'd rather shop on the streets. I think there's more of a heartland feel there, unlike shopping malls where it feels really commercialised. And also, I feel that I would be able to learn more about their culture, Venetian culture if I were to shop on the streets. I can interact with the shopkeeper and learn more about their culture at the same time."

"Oh, so you mean there's more of a personal feel when you shop on the streets then in a shopping centre. Like they don't know their products..."

Right, what was that? :/

Well, if there's a déjà vu moment for today's oral. I hope the collection of results will be also be a déjà vu moment like this year's CL O level's collection of results.

Dear Diary...
Fruitful, definitely.
dimanche 16 août 2009

It was wayyyy tiring today. But fruitful. Most definitely.

This weekend felt weird and unproductive, because my parents have both left for Malaysia to visit my grandmother who has fell. And this weekend I only managed to do 2 years worth of Physics MCQ from the ten-year series, 1 A math paper one, 1 biology worksheet and 3 geog questions.

But I still felt that the weekend was fruitful. 'Cause i did a lot of thinking. Yes, thinking. [classic INFJ behaviour]

Especially today. (we'll talk about that later.)

Let's talk about my grandmother first.

My grandmother had a fall on Thursday, 2 weeks ago at a temple. My dad, upon hearing the news booked tickets for the Friday morning coach. He came back on Thursday, and left again on Friday! I was like, oh am gee! Yeah, So I didn't get to see much of my dad recently ): I miss my dad, and more importantly, that travel shaver we share. rahh. My dad took the shaver away.

Dad had to leave again because grandma had a hip fracture and needed an operation. They needed to insert a metal bracket to support her hip. So yeah, my dad had to go back to collect the bracket.

I was like.."What? COLLECT THE BRACKET? YOURSELF? FROM THE POST OFFICE?" I was like really shocked.

Then my dad was like, "Malaysia is like that..."

Then I cracked a joke that the hospital was a budget hospital after my dad said that it was a 'free hospital'. "Dad, I heard of budget airlines and budget hotels. But this is the first time I have heard of a no-frills budget hospital! Like what, 'you want a bed? rent it for five dollars a night!' 'you want a pillow? 2 dollars!' 'you want a blanket? 2 dollars' 'you want the doctor's attention? ten dollars!' " My parents laughed really hard when I said that. Although the hospital is not that bad as to even make you pay for the doctor's attention, it really is a budget hospital. LOLs. Budget healthcare.

But I really think that the hospital's protocol is quite ridiculous. Making my dad collect the 'delivery' It seems pretty stupid. My mum said,"What if someone fell down and has no relatives? he has to limp or crawl to go collect his order?" That was quite funny too. And a quite possible situation. I really wonder how that hospital works. Ridiculous budget healthcare. I don't trust them, honestly.

Next, today! This weekend has seriously been unproductive because I did not manage to start on revision and finish my tuition homework. Oh wells. Today was quite fruitful. Did math, went for Chinese, then rushed to Kovan to meet Mr Tan at the scholars' hostel, Mr Tan is staying with the hostels. (shit. did I say Mr Tan is staying with the HOSTELS? I must be dreaming. I meant that he stays with the scholars.) to prepare for tomorrow's O level English Oral Examinations. We waited for a really really really long time. But it was quite worth it.

Mr Tan felt that my reading today was below par, cos I was low on energy. I wasn't surprised, considering the events that had preceded the revision session. Anyway my conversation was good, as usual. (: Love it. Still band one despite my bad reading. YESH. I CAN SMELL THAT A1. COME TO ME!

And today, I realised that Toon Yang and I shared the same thinking for religion and life. which is quite cool. Both of us are freethinkers, but we do believe in reincarnation (Egyptians and Buddhism), and then we also believe that all the deities and gods and goddesses co-exist and all. haha! It's quite cool, to actually find out someone believes in the exact same way as you. (I see toon yang in a different light! haha)

Although I often say, "Why bother about life after death when you still have got life before death to deal with?" But often, when I think about my future, I think of death. I often wonder if I will just cease to exist. Like the moment I die everything just blacks out and u literally cease to exist. Like, u live only once. We're nothing but phosphorous, calcium, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen pieced together. Or do we have inner beings that continue to live?

But then that leads to another question. That what are these inner beings? Do they die? How did they originate? If they control personality, does that mean the future and current personas you have will have the same personality? You know you know what I mean?

Confusing and scary. That's the essence of "Life is pleasant, Death is peaceful. It is only the transition that is troublesome." What's gonna happen? I don't know. :/ I guess the concept of life and death is far too difficult for us to understand. That's because we don't know. We don't know.

But I really hope there's reincarnation! haha. Will I be an animal? haha. But me and Toon Yang actually wish to be of the opposite gender, now that we have already tried being boys. haha. But then again, if there really is reincarnation, we might have been women, horses, dogs in our past lives already. Haha.

Life and death. Funny. Scary. Universal.

English Oral tomorrow. Wonder how it'd be.

That guy has a nice surname. [butt] LOLs. Silvana made me do the Myer-Briggs personality tests, so I went to do it. Found it to be fairly accurate.

Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging

by Joe Butt Profile: INFJ
Revision: 3.01
Date of Revision: 6 Mar 2005

Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.

INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ.

"There's something rotten in Denmark." Accurately suspicious about others' motives, INFJs are not easily led. These are the people that you can rarely fool any of the time. Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words.

INFJs have a knack for fluency in language and facility in communication. In addition, nonverbal sensitivity enables the INFJ to know and be known by others intimately.

Writing, counseling, public service and even politics are areas where INFJs frequently find their niche.

Functional Analysis:

Introverted iNtuition

Introverted intuitives, INFJs enjoy a greater clarity of perception of inner, unconscious processes than all but their INTJ cousins. Just as SP types commune with the object and "live in the here and now" of the physical world, INFJs readily grasp the hidden psychological stimuli behind the more observable dynamics of behavior and affect. Their amazing ability to deduce the inner workings of the mind, will and emotions of others gives INFJs their reputation as prophets and seers. Unlike the confining, routinizing nature of introverted sensing, introverted intuition frees this type to act insightfully and spontaneously as unique solutions arise on an event by event basis.

Extraverted Feeling

Extraverted feeling, the auxiliary deciding function, expresses a range of emotion and opinions of, for and about people. INFJs, like many other FJ types, find themselves caught between the desire to express their wealth of feelings and moral conclusions about the actions and attitudes of others, and the awareness of the consequences of unbridled candor. Some vent the attending emotions in private, to trusted allies. Such confidants are chosen with care, for INFJs are well aware of the treachery that can reside in the hearts of mortals. This particular combination of introverted intuition and extraverted feeling provides INFJs with the raw material from which perceptive counselors are shaped.

Introverted Thinking

The INFJ's thinking is introverted, turned toward the subject. Perhaps it is when the INFJ's thinking function is operative that he is most aloof. A comrade might surmise that such detachment signals a disillusionment, that she has also been found lacking by the sardonic eye of this one who plumbs the depths of the human spirit. Experience suggests that such distancing is merely an indication that the seer is hard at work and focusing energy into this less efficient tertiary function.

Extraverted Sensing

INFJs are twice blessed with clarity of vision, both internal and external. Just as they possess inner vision which is drawn to the forms of the unconscious, they also have external sensing perception which readily takes hold of worldly objects. Sensing, however, is the weakest of the INFJ's arsenal and the most vulnerable. INFJs, like their fellow intuitives, may be so absorbed in intuitive perceiving that they become oblivious to physical reality. The INFJ under stress may fall prey to various forms of immediate gratification. Awareness of extraverted sensing is probably the source of the "SP wannabe" side of INFJs. Many yearn to live spontaneously; it's not uncommon for INFJ actors to take on an SP (often ESTP) role.

Introverted iNtuiting Feeling Judging

by Marina Margaret Heiss

INFJs are distinguished by both their complexity of character and the unusual range and depth of their talents. Strongly humanitarian in outlook, INFJs tend to be idealists, and because of their J preference for closure and completion, they are generally "doers" as well as dreamers. This rare combination of vision and practicality often results in INFJs taking a disproportionate amount of responsibility in the various causes to which so many of them seem to be drawn.

INFJs are deeply concerned about their relations with individuals as well as the state of humanity at large. They are, in fact, sometimes mistaken for extroverts because they appear so outgoing and are so genuinely interested in people -- a product of the Feeling function they most readily show to the world. On the contrary, INFJs are true introverts, who can only be emotionally intimate and fulfilled with a chosen few from among their long-term friends, family, or obvious "soul mates."[yea. WK is my BFF] While instinctively courting the personal and organizational demands continually made upon them by others, at intervals INFJs will suddenly withdraw into themselves, sometimes shutting out even their intimates. This apparent paradox is a necessary escape valve for them, providing both time to rebuild their depleted resources and a filter to prevent the emotional overload to which they are so susceptible as inherent "givers." As a pattern of behavior, it is perhaps the most confusing aspect of the enigmatic INFJ character to outsiders, and hence the most often misunderstood -- particularly by those who have little experience with this rare type.

Due in part to the unique perspective produced by this alternation between detachment and involvement in the lives of the people around them, INFJs may well have the clearest insights of all the types into the motivations of others, for good and for evil. The most important contributing factor to this uncanny gift, however, are the empathic abilities often found in Fs, which seem to be especially heightened in the INFJ type (possibly by the dominance of the introverted N function).

This empathy can serve as a classic example of the two-edged nature of certain INFJ talents, as it can be strong enough to cause discomfort or pain in negative or stressful situations. More explicit inner conflicts are also not uncommon in INFJs; it is possible to speculate that the causes for some of these may lie in the specific combinations of preferences which define this complex type. For instance, there can sometimes be a "tug-of-war" between NF vision and idealism and the J practicality that urges compromise for the sake of achieving the highest priority goals. And the I and J combination, while perhaps enhancing self-awareness, may make it difficult for INFJs to articulate their deepest and most convoluted feelings.

Usually self-expression comes more easily to INFJs on paper, as they tend to have strong writing skills. Since in addition they often possess a strong personal charisma, INFJs are generally well-suited to the "inspirational" professions such as teaching (especially in higher education) and religious leadership. Psychology and counseling are other obvious choices, but overall, INFJs can be exceptionally difficult to pigeonhole by their career paths. Perhaps the best example of this occurs in the technical fields. Many INFJs perceive themselves at a disadvantage when dealing with the mystique and formality of "hard logic", and in academic terms this may cause a tendency to gravitate towards the liberal arts rather than the sciences. However, the significant minority of INFJs who do pursue studies and careers in the latter areas tend to be as successful as their T counterparts, as it is *iNtuition* -- the dominant function for the INFJ type -- which governs the ability to understand abstract theory and implement it creatively.

In their own way, INFJs are just as much "systems builders" as are INTJs; the difference lies in that most INFJ "systems" are founded on human beings and human values, rather than information and technology. Their systems may for these reasons be conceptually "blurrier" than analogous NT ones, harder to measure in strict numerical terms, and easier to take for granted -- yet it is these same underlying reasons which make the resulting contributions to society so vital and profound.

LOLs. Silvana is ENTP! total opposites.

Dear Diary...
It was all worth it.

It took me like, almost one year to realise that. I was browsing through Silvana's photo albums on Facebook and I came across 2 albums, both of which contained photos of last year's CHSPB-CGSSC collaboration.

What captured my attention weren't the ladies, but the prefects!

They looked really happy. Seriously. I mean, when you see your juniors happy, you can't help but feel happy too right? Yeah, so when I saw the pictures, I figured out that the arguments the four of us, Zong Da, Wei Lun, Nobel and I had, our hard work, all that commuting to the faraway CGS in Orchard, all the heartache when we have to restart some things, during our term were all worth it.

totally.

It was all worth it.

Mars

I'm sure many of you have heard that I have said that I would name my first daughter Taylor and my second Alison (If I ever do).

Then, for some reason a name for a son popped into my head just now!

I think I'll call my son Mars.
Lols.
It sounds unique, and powerful. For some reason :/ yeah.

And Mars Mun. It's like haiku, like a poem.
Woohoo. It's got a ring to it. And check out the initials MM. Minister Mentor. Perfect. (:

And I think I want to name all of my kids 文永[something] Because I love the word 永. Not only because it's in my name and I am very proud of it, but also because it's the easiest Chinese character to write with all the basic strokes of Chinese characters!

永 is the coolest Chinese character ever. Seriously.

Mars Mun, Taylor Mun, Alison Mun.

Sounds good.

Taylor Swift
Invisible

She can't see the way your eyes
Light up when you smile
She'll never notice how you stop and stare
When ever she walks by

And you can't see me wanting you
the way you want her
But you are everything to me

And I just want to show you
She don't even know you
She's never going to love you
Like I want too
And You just see right through me
If you only knew me
We could be a beautiful miracle
Unbelievable, instead of just invisible

Yeah,

There's a fire inside of you
That can't help but shine through.
She's never gonna see the light
No matter what you do

And all I think about
Is how to make you think of me
And everything that we could be

And I just want to show you
She don't even know you
She's never gonna love you
Like i want too
And you just see right through me
If you only knew me
We could be a beautiful miracle
Unbelievable, instead of just invisible.

Like shadows in a faded light
We're invisible
I just wanna open your eyes
and make you realize
I just want to show you
She don't even know you
Baby let me love you, let me want you.

You just see right through me
But if you only knew me
We could be a beautiful miracle,
Unbelievable, instead of just invisible.

She can't see the way your eyes
light up when you smile.

Dear Diary...
It's a mad rush
jeudi 13 août 2009

It's a mad rush now. Somehow I managed to finish my physics, albeit in a half-past-six manner. Somehow I guess i'll improve it tomorrow as Ms Foo goes through it. I cannot focus anymore, too tired.

I had 3 hours of Chemistry tuition today! My brain defnitely is as saturated as copper(II)sulfate solution about to crystalise.

10 weeks left. Now or never.

Myanmar should release Aug San Suu Kyi. Europe should go beyond "condemning Myanmar's actions and suggestion sanctions" to start considering force or productive talks. Russian and China should stop exploting Myanmar's resources so the economic sanctions can take effect. ASEAN should kick Myanmar out, their presence currently is a dirty smear on our clean faces.

Release her Myanmar!

Then again, as if any of them are listening to me.

Dear Diary...
New Exposition: All men are created equal?
mardi 11 août 2009

“All men are created equal.” If that is true, why are there rich people, poor people, angry people, happy people, depressed people, disheartened people, motivated people, pessimists, optimists, and people of different languages and talents?

If everyone is created equal, everyone should possess similar or even identical traits and talents. Only then will there be no jealousy over another person’s special quality. In that way also, everyone can be equal.

Also, if everyone was equal, why do different people have different fates and destinies? Some people have broken marriages, while others have long-lasting relationships. Why are some children raised in broken families, while others are fed with a silver spoon since young? Is this fair? Is this equal?

Furthermore, if everyone was equal, why are we of different races, why do we have different skin tones, why do we look so different? If men were made equal shouldn’t we look exactly the same?

My views on the issue on all men being created equal are mixed. Partly, I feel that all men are not created equal, since so live so unfortunate lives, while others live a life of luxury. While I also feel that men are not created equally physically, but in terms of the opportunities each person is given.

Why do I think men are not created equal?

Let us take property tycoon, Donald Trump for example. Donald Trump has an estimated worth of US$1.6 billion. He can afford to produce reality shows such as The Apprentice, sponsor beauty pageants such Miss USA and travel from town to town in his Sikorsky helicopter. On the other hand, there are dirt poor people who cannot even afford a square meal. There are the malnourished children in Africa, the child slaves in China’s kilns and the preteen sex slaves in Vietnam. All of these poor people are subject to hardship and all forms of humiliation. Some are denied the basic human rights, while others are abused in all ways possible. In this case, I cannot agree that all men are created equal. If all men are created equal, why are those children subject to so much humiliation and hardship at such a tender age, while there are rich people at the other side of the world who can travel in style?

Apart from that, the racial discrimination in US also shows that all men are not created equal. The Jim Crow Laws enacted between 1876 and 1965, mandated de jure segregation in all public facilities, with a supposed “separate but equal” status for Black Americans. As good-sounding as it seems, in reality, it led to the treatment and accommodations that were usually inferior to that provided for the White Americans. In 1955, Rosa Parks defied an order by the bus driver to move to the back to create a new row for the Whites who have come aboard. She was fined $10. When she protested and refused to pay, she was arrested. This led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott which was led by Martin Luther King Jr. It was a protest to demand the equal rights the Black Americans due deserve. In this case, I again cannot comply with the notion that all men are created equal. If all men are created equal, why have we been created in different colours and of different castes and treated so differently?

Similarly, the talents we are given also shows that all men are not created equal. The intelligence quotient is evidence that some of us are indeed, smarter or more dull than others. This shows that different people have different degrees of intelligence, thinking ability and talents. How can this be fair? Due to the fact that some people are smarter than others, it has led to discrimination and segregation. For example, the now-defunct EM3 class and the Normal (Academic/Technical) stream for ‘weaker’ students. Due to their slower learning ability, these members of our mankind have been shortchanged. They are not given as much knowledge, and not given the same treatment as us. The fact that different people have different learning abilities and talents, which results in a difference in types and amounts of job opportunities and futures makes me feel that men are not created equal.

On the other hand, although men may not have been created equally physically, their fates, lives and opportunities are equal. In this case, the Creator is fair.

Take the rich and poor for example. Although the rich live a life of luxury, they often lose touch with reality and the rest of the world as they have been at the top for too long to understand the going-ons at the foot of the mountain. They may become cocky, arrogant and disliked. Thus, being a rich person may not be an easy job.

Although the poor live a life of hardship, they do know what happens around them. They know the importance to save for rainy days and to help others. Eventually, some of the poor break the poverty cycle through sheer hard work and luck. These people are the ones who are able to live fulfilling lives by working hard for everything they have in their lives and helping others along the way.

In this case, all men’s lives and opportunities are created equal. Although the rich live a life of luxury, they miss out on the simple things in life and the fulfillment they may achieve if they help others or earn what they have with their own blood, tears, toil and sweat. Although the poor live a hard life, they live a fulfilling life if they are willing to work hard and break the poverty circle and help others along the way.

Next, take the different races for example. Although the Whites are considered more superior to the Blacks, some Blacks are able to prove this common sterotype wrong. Take Sonia Sotomayor for example. Due to the fact that Hispanics are considered second-class citizens in USA, she was able to transform the discrimination into motivation to work harder to become what she is today, a Justice in the US supreme court.

Whites, who live more privileged lives may be less inclined to work hard to pave the way to their future. Some turn to drugs and vice, while others may become gaming addicts. Owing to their more privileged and peaceful lives, they may be less hardworking and are less productive.

In this case, all men’s lives and opportunities are created equal. Although the Whites do not suffer from racial discrimination, they may do less well than their Black counterparts because they do not feel the need to work hard as their Black counterparts do. The Blacks on the other hand are eager to break the poverty circle and be able to provide a better life for their families, thus they work harder and become more successful. Thus, the Creator is fair.
Lastly, let us take our different talents for example. We are given different talents so we can help this world develop in different ways. If everyone was given the exact same set of talents, our world would not have been able to develop to the way it is today. It is thus important for all of us to accept or our talents and shortcomings so that we may benefit the society. Although some of our fellow men maybe less intelligent, they still are equipped with special skills that are beneficial to our society.

Thus, all men are created equal as smart or dull, everyone is given his or her own set of talents so each person has an equal opportunity to serve the society well. In this case, the Creator is fair.

In conclusion, although men are not created equal physically, in terms of physical build, skin colour and intelligence levels, each man is given equal opportunities by equipping everyone of us with a unique set of talents and personality. It is up to each person to unleash his or her own potential and talent so that he or she may be able to serve the society well and be a happy person

All men are created equal but some are more equal than others. – Animal Farm, George Orwell

Dear Diary...
Looooong Day
lundi 10 août 2009

Was supposed to do finish my biology worksheet and do another math paper today. But a diarrhoea trapped me in the toilet the entire morning. ): It was a reall bad diarrhoea. Seriously. So pain! ):

Yup, after that I rushed mybiology homeostasis revision worksheet before leaving home in the afternoon for my grandaunt's wake. ): The family had her service in their home at Gardenia Road. My....cousin (? I'm not sure how we are related, family tree is too branchy) told me the SG Casket people had a lot of trouble moving the coffin up. But they eventually did it and the body didn't slant.

I'll be still in school on Wednesday so I wouldn't b able to attend the funeral. sigh.

It's quite scary, to see how much weight she has lost. The last time I saw her was in a nursing home, where she was recuperating from her fall. Then, she was still quite plump although she was quite disorientated. That was 3 years ago.

Today, when I saw her in there, it kind of scared me to see how thin she has become. It was as if she has shrunk. Her face was no longer the former plump self. She was literally a bag of bones. In her hands she clutched a mandarin version of the bible. Her fingers were still, plump. And in between the index finger and the thumb, there was this unnatural bluish-black colour.

I didn't know what to say or what to do. So I just walked a round around the coffin with my grandmother before escorting her to her seat.

Really scary. My....aunt? She had a bad dream of someone dying a few days before. after visiting her the next morning nad helping to clean her up, the next day, grandaunt passed away.

It's kind of scary how, you can be alive for one moment, and then dead the next. Oh well...life is short.

After that, we went to have dinner, my uncle's family, my mum and grandma. T-One Steamboat restaurant. Another à la carte buffet style restaurant. The food served there is not too bad. (:

Peeks.

Too Much Food! (It's a Jason Mraz song. Really.)

Mum said that the chair looked really nice. So I snapped a pic.

Pretty chandelier. It's going to the living room of my bukit timah home! (I wish.)

Uncle Tony! (the rest of the family is rather shy)
