Spent the morning reading the papers, and i chanced upon this article.
Help, jobless foreign workers cry
Its an article about heartless 'agents' and cheated foreign workers. Dozens of jobless foreign workers turned up at the MOM yesterday. First thing in question is, how can they come into Singapore, for work when they do not even have valid work permits?
Tell me, how many articles of such, we have read this year? Countless. Den my assumption would be, there must be countless of such heartless agents. And, its has been discovered that most of these agents, are Bangladeshi, but live in Singapore. I cannot at all understand, how they could be willing to cheat their own countrymen of their hard-earned money. Is it because, after they have moved to Singapore, a proclaimed "high-speed, high-efficiency, COLD" society, they have become such heartless beings?
Many of the workers spent their whole fortune to get here to Singapore. Money used to pay for the airfare, and of course, the AGENTS' COMMISSION, and what the agents claim as "training". And when they arrive here in Singapore, ready to find their pot of gold, they end up in misery. No jobs. Poor lodging. Maybe even poor food. It sets me thinking. What has these workers done to deserve this? They came here to work, so they can earn more, so they can remit a little more to their family, so they can all lead a better life. You might say,"They suffer this fate because they are greedy, they want more money." But, if you look at this at a different angle, your views will change. Why?
Us Singaporeans, and probably many other "middle-class" to "upper-class" people in the world, all strive to become better and earn more. We attend courses, we study hard in school and all, to earn money. So, are we greedy? No. We are working for our money. And so are the Bangladeshi workers. it is not as if they are here to just take the money without working or through illegitimate means. They are WORKING for it. Real greed comes from corruption, blackmail, embezzlement of funds, money laundering. It is not going overseas for a better future.
I'd hope those agents would find their conscience soon and set things right. And i hope that our efficient, and righteous Government would do something about this issue.
