I know it's late. I'm still watching this show called 特写. This episodes 'case' is on Granny Wong. She lives with her son. Despite being already 70 years old, she still sells her wares at a flea market at Sungei Road in Singapore. This is because her son has not been able to find a job, due to his drug history.

They make 2 meals a day from a rice cooker to save gas. They live a very frugal life. Granny Wong's son had been diagnosed with depression and other mental illnesses due to the stress and pressure derived from the 'not-so-good' life they are living right now.

Despite their predicament, Granny Wong is a volunteer at the Dover Park Hospice, offering help to the old and sick.

I'm very touched by this true story. At 70, you are quite unlucky to be unable to stop working and begin enjoying the golden years of your life. And yet, granny Wong is still full of zest for life. She finished buddhist studies at 63 years old, learnt to write beautifully despite being uneducated, and still does charity work by being a volunteer at Dover Park Hospice.

I think I'm going to take back a few words from my Charity exposé. The era where true charity existed, probably isn't a lost generation yet.

And I'm seriously touched by the camaraderie the hawkers at the flea market have, taking care of granny Wong, buying her food and coffee, offering her shelter when it rains, giving her extras to sell. This is real charity and benevolence, that I thought I'll never see in my lifetime.

After watching the show I was wondering if I should expand my cause to bring the poor and elderly under my umbrella. But I don't think I can.

僧多粥少

There are so many people who need help, but there's only so much Charity From The Heart can do. Furthermore, we're dedicated to the children. Sigh. So many people who need help, yet so little people who can help/are willing to help.

Maybe Taylor should write a song about this.

And I guess this is the first time I'm writing something, fairly 'negative' in content about Taylor.

I was wondering, since her main influences in her songwriting comes from observing other's relationships and her own, day to day life and all, will she one day grow out of it? I mean, she is in the last year of her teens already, can she keep this up? She can't be writing about teenage relationships and all, all the time right? Wouldn't her audience change as she grows up and starts writing slightly differently in content although her style might be much less the same? Will she lose support because of this? We'll wait and see. No matter how the future turns out to be, she'll always be my country queen. And probably queen of pop too. (note: teardrops on my guitar is actually a country-pop crossover)

I still have absolute faith in her, and her musical genius.
